Part 1: Hundreds of children in New Orleans faced sudden summer camp closures this week after camps run by the Asher Institute, founded by Zion Williamson’s stepfather Lee Anderson, shut down early.
Anderson said the closures were due to delays in funding and accounting errors, while camp staff reported not being paid for weeks. Some workers lined up for nearly an hour to finally receive overdue paychecks on Wednesday.
The camps had promised free summer programming at three locations. Two closed abruptly, leaving parents scrambling for childcare and teachers unpaid at the height of summer.
