Description
In a neighborhood in Sheridan, Indiana, there is a flurry of work underway.
"We have about 12 crews who are out here repairing homes," said CrossRoads Church at Westfield pastor Eric Lohe.
Lohe said 344 participants, many of them teenagers from a variety of states, are participating in CrossRoads' Home Repair Week in several communities in northern Hamilton County.
"They're doing roof coating, mobile home skirting, interior and exterior painting. They're doing replacement and construction of steps. And right around the corner, there's a group putting in a wheelchair ramp for one of the residents here," Lohe said.
Donations came from the church and Central Indiana Community Foundation. The young participants also have a financial stake in the mission.
"Each of the students who come here pay $500. Part of that fee goes to buy the construction materials," said Lohe.
Colorado-based Group Misson Trips is helping to organize the effort.
