Description
We officially have the first named storm of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season.
Forecasters named Invest 90L as Tropical Storm Andrea. The storm is moving toward the east-northeast, far away from the United States.
It continues to move away at 17 mph with 40 mph winds. Weather officials say it's about 1,205 miles away from Azores, which is an archipelago composed of nine volcanic islands, which is technically part of Portugal.
There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect, according to the 11 a.m. advisory. Andrea is expected to weaken beginning tonight and dissipate by Wednesday night, officials wrote.
This has been the quietest start to hurricane season since 2014. On average, the first named storm typically forms by June 20 — but so far, the basin has stayed mostly inactive.
