Description
Researchers at the University of South Florida are developing new predictive models to better understand and forecast the spread of dengue virus, as Florida sees a rise in both travel-related and locally acquired infections.
From 2010 to 2024, the state recorded more than 3,800 travel-associated dengue cases and over 500 locally transmitted infections. All four known dengue virus serotypes have now been detected in Florida, a sign of expanding risk for more severe illness, including dengue hemorrhagic fever and dengue shock syndrome, according to USF research associate, Dr. Kristi Miley. https://www.wtsp.com/article/news/local/dengue-virus-in-florida-usf-researchers/67-06ea99e0-071c-4fbe-8d5e-acdc2647742f
