Nearly one in five Americans suffers from chronic acid reflux, also known as GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease), according to MemorialCare. Another study found as many as 60 million suffer from heartburn in general.
Medical experts say we should pay attention to acid – especially when it becomes frequent – because it can lead to serious complications if left untreated.
13News talked with Dr. Paul Haynes, a physician from Indianapolis Gastroenterology and Hepatology, about the causes, symptoms, prevention and when to seek medical help.
