Description
As the sun beats down on these hot Indiana summer days, it's important to stay hydrated.
However, in a few northeast Indianapolis neighborhoods, some people won't drink from the tap.
Lara Cooney said she noticed it at restaurant recently.
"It has sort of that kind of moldy taste to it," Cooney described.
Citizens Energy Group said they received calls from customers in the 46220, 46240 and 46250 ZIP codes on the city's north side who taste and smell the problem.
Citizens said the water comes from the Fall Creek Treatment Plant. Spokesperson Ben Easley said as unappealing as the water may be, it won't hurt you.
"It has no impact on your health. It's totally safe. Your water is totally safe to drink," Easley said.
He explained the earthy taste and smell is a seasonal issue and recent rain and heat make good conditions for the source of the problem — algae.
