Description
After nearly five months on the run, escaped New Orleans inmate Derrick Groves was captured in Atlanta following a tense standoff with police.
Groves, convicted of double murder, was the last of 10 fugitives who escaped the Orleans Justice Center in May.
A CrimeStoppers tip led authorities to a home on Honeysuckle Lane, where SWAT teams deployed gas and found Groves hiding in a crawl space before he surrendered.
He blew kisses to cameras as officers took him into custody.
Officials praised the multi-agency operation that ended one of Louisiana’s most high-profile manhunts. Groves will be extradited back to Louisiana to face additional charges.
