Description
Two people are dead after a mobile home fire Tuesday in Auburndale, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies and crews from Polk County Fire Rescue responded to the home on Gladiola Drive just before 1:30 p.m. They were originally dispatched to reports of an explosion, but after arriving, officials say they found a working modular home fire along with a "fully involved" golf cart and a partially involved vehicle.
Crews were reportedly able to get water on the fire within minutes of being on scene. They also arrived to find two people who were pronounced dead at the scene, according to PCFR.
It's unclear what led up to the fire. Officials say the causes of death will be determined by an autopsy scheduled for Wednesday.
“It’s always sad when deaths occur during emergency situations. My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of the individuals that passed,” Polk County Fire Chief Shawn Smith said in a statement.
An death investigation is ongoing.
