Description
Sept. 2 on The Story: With Portland very much still in the grips of a drug crisis, Rose City Detox is pursuing what most would consider an understandable goal — opening a new drug treatment center in the city. But due to the constraints on what buildings can be used for that purpose, the location they found in Southeast is right next door to Gilbert Heights Elementary. That has parents and some neighbors up in arms, arguing that this isn't a simple case of NIMBYism, but a real safety issue for the children who'll be playing outside every day. They've pleaded to the city for intervention, but it may no longer be in the hands of Portland officials.
