Description
Aug. 25 on The Story: This Friday, the Oregon Legislature reconvenes at Gov. Tina Kotek's behest with the sole purpose of passing a bill to fund the state's transportation needs, after lawmakers crashed and burned on passing a package during the long legislative session this year. Apparently caving to demands from Republicans that there needed to be public input on the new package — or perhaps calling their bluff — Kotek scheduled a public hearing for today, allowing stakeholders of all kinds to have their say on the bill to-be. There remains a deep divide between Democratic and Republican leaders on the bill, with the former underlining the need for higher taxes and fees to keep ODOT funded, and the latter claiming that no such thing needs to be done in order to meet ODOT's basic needs.
