Aug. 22 on The Story: This week, Portland Mayor Keith Wilson unveiled the return of "Sunday Parkways," part of a larger push to get visitors downtown and out and about. For loyal viewers of The Story, that's nothing new — revitalizing Portland's central city has been a big stated priority since the pandemic. But this time, it also coincides with some measures that may prove counterproductive. Parking fees have gone up, and fee hours will soon extend out to 10 p.m. everyday. At the same time, PBOT is cracking down on outdoor dining structures, hitting some downtown restaurants with fees or ultimatums to have those structures removed.
