According to IMPD, there were 84 murders in Indianapolis from Jan. 1 through Sept. 1 this year, which is a 24% decrease from the same time last year.
"We know we have a lot of work left to do, and you can count on IMPD doing our part — not just the rest of the year, but going forward, to try to impact violent crime because it is our number one priority: reducing violent crime," IMPD Chief Chris Bailey said.
