Description
Severe weather went through Monroe County late Saturday night and early Sunday morning. Around 12:30 a.m. Aug. 17, Monroe Fire Protection District firefighters responded to a report of a tree falling on a person and pinning them underneath at Hardin Ridge Campground in Heltonville, which is approximately 15 miles south of Bloomington. According to the Monroe Fire Protection District, firefighters responding to the scene had to get through storm debris, including multiple trees down, some of which were tangled with power lines. Firefighters also had trouble finding the camper – identified by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office as a female – who was pinned under a tree due to poor signal in the area during the storms.
