Description
A change in how Indiana tracks certain special education documents has led to confusion at the start of the new school year, with parents, teachers and districts scrambling to get students the help the need.
The issue revolves around Individualized Education Programs, known as IEPs, which are a tool to help children with specialized needs get the help they need to succeed in school. For example, a student with ADHD may get an IEP that allows them to have a fidget device in class to help them stay focused on lessons or a distraction free space to take tests. A child with speech impediments might not have to make public announcements and may be given time during the school day to work with a therapist.
