Description
State Senator Royce Duplessis is one of the top three candidates in the 2025 New Orleans mayoral race โ but unlike the others, he has never served on the City Council.
Background: Raised in the Pontchartrain Park neighborhood with three brothers, Duplessis graduated from St. Augustine High School, Xavier University, and earned his law degree from Howard University.
Career start: Entered politics after Hurricane Katrina as chief of staff to a city councilman.
Legislative record: Elected to the Louisiana House in 2018 and the State Senate in 2022, Duplessis has passed more than 70 pieces of legislation.
Policy focus: Reinvestment in NoRD and youth programs, addressing violence, and creating equity and opportunity for all residents.
Philosophy: Duplessis says his experience working with people he disagrees with โ to find solutions and put residents first โ proves he can lead the city.
